You co-wrote with Jimmy Robbins and Laura Veltz
It's "On Paper," and basically this song is about two people
Who seem all wrong for each other in everybody else's eyes
So I have to ask, how much of this
Was inspired by your own relationship?
Um, some. I had referenced that before at some point to
A friend, and I said, "You know, nobody really thought
That Kathleen and I would date as long as we have."
I mean, we didn't even anticipate dating as long as we
Have. And, and, you know, especially going through the
Whole Idol thing, and being on a radio tour, being on
Tour in general, and just living the whole separate things
I said, "On paper, none of it makes sense," and I think
It was a conversation just like that that led to the song
Well, and then it makes me think, I don't
Know if you put this much thought into it
You know, there's that saying that opposites attract
But sometimes you wonder if two opposite is not good
But I always feel like if the fundamentals are there
Whether it's your morals, your values, your faith
It, it doesn't matter how different you are
An example that I always think about
Carrie Underwood and her husband Mike Fisher
She's a dedicated vegan/vegetarian, depending on
The day, and he loves to hunt, he's a meat eater
And you would think that that would just, is
Not compatible, yet they share their same values
I mean, so do you think that that is the case
That as long as the fundamental stuff is there?
I think if, as long as you have something
Important to fall back on, you know
Both with Carrie and, and Mike
They're both really strong in their faith
And I think that is what you realize transcends most things
Faith, for example, Kathleen and I both have that in common
And that is something that is kind of on the other foot
I am pretty vegetarian, and she is the meat eater, uh, you know
And so that was just funny you should mention that
But yeah, I mean, those are silly things
In comparison to the important stuff
You realize that there's things that, that keep you together
Even though it doesn't look like it would work, like it'd be enough
It doesn't work on paper, but it works in spite of it
Yeah, well, this is kind of a message to all
Those people who say it's never gonna work
