Testo There’s A Girl - Trent Harmon
Testo della canzone There’s A Girl (Trent Harmon), tratta dall'album You Got 'Em All (Big Machine Radio Release Special)
We are talking to Trent Harmon today as we celebrate the release of
His You Got 'Em All album, which is out now. And the next song we're
Gonna talk about, track two, "There's a Girl." Uh, you released this
Song over a year ago. You wrote it with Laura Veltz and Jimmy
Robbins, who have since kind of become songwriting family for you
Was this one of the first songs that the three of you wrote together?
I think it was the first. I think it was the first proper co-
Write that I ever really sat down with proper Nashville songwriters
You know. We had something at stake. We had to write a song that
Day. We didn't have to, but we were kind of under the gun to
Write a song to take to radio. Or be pitched some songs, you know
This was really the only chance I had to write an original song
And, um, looking back, I think we did a pretty dadgum good
Job, I mean, we, of one write, never knowing each other, yeah
Well, and then talk to me about the relationship with them, because
I mean, you have to feel something when you sit down to write a
Song. I've talked to writers who were like, "I know within the
First five minutes if it's not gonna work, and I just try to get
Out of that room." Like Brett Young says, he just tries to get
Out of the room as fast as he can if he knows it's not gonna work
I hate that, too
Yeah, talk about developing that trust and what it
Was about the three of you that just worked
Because they wrote several songs on this album with you
Yes, I think we all came in that day without pressuring each other
Into any kind of expectation. I came in and said, "Guys, I know that
We have all been put here last minute to write a hit. Let's go
Ahead and talk about the elephant in the room. Also, let's go get
A bite to eat, try to actually talk to each other outside of this
Room. Let's go just do something together other than sitting down
To write what we hope to be is," I said, "because the odds are not
In our favor." And so I think we did. We may have went and just
Gotten breakfast or gotten our lunch. We came back and wrote the
Song. We talked while we were at lunch. I kind of got a vibe for
Them. They figured out, "Okay, this is what he's into." We talked
About what music we like. And since then, we have written
I don't know how many times. And that's really, really
Set a precedent. That song set a precedent for, "Okay
This will work. We can do this once a week. I'll see you
Same place, same time." And we wrote a lot of the album
That's amazing, though, that sort of on
First try, you, you ran into two people who
Almost never happens, you know. I think that
Has to be something special that you can't fake
Well, I am so glad that you found Laura Veltz and Jimmy Robbins
Who, like we said, have become serious songwriting partners for you
Yeah. Well, here it is. This is "There's a Girl" off Trent Harmon's
Debut album, which is available now, and it's on Big Machine Radio
