I love this song because it starts out with kind of an R&B groove
And it's kind of like the modern day "Holding her and Loving You"
So tell people about this song
"Here With You" is about losing somebody and finding somebody perfect
But never getting over that person you lost
We wrote this very open-ended
We wrote it to be potentially a complete loss, like losing somebody to a tragic accident
The whole idea for me was, it has always been
How can I continue to write love songs for Sabina but say it differently?
You know, different ways of the impact that she's had on me
I wrote that with Matt McVee and Josh Hoag
And we really just dove into like, man, you could be with somebody perfect
Like if Sabina was gone for some reason in five years
And I found like a perfect person for me that my family and my friends loved
It would not matter
Every single thing, I would always-
Even if I was happy, I would forever compare every little thing to Sabina
It's just about when you find something so real that no matter what, it'll be with you forever
It'll always be here with you
You know, it's funny because when I was writing my notes for this interview with you
I wrote down, I can't tell if she just left like a divorce or if she died
And it seems to me, even when you read the lyrics, if you're trying to figure it out
That they're pretty ambiguous
And so it really is kind of a "choose-your-own-adventure song"
For lack of a better way to put it
So it seems like you intentionally made this song pretty vague in terms of
Why she's no longer there
Yeah, and it talks about back to you in that white dress
That's referencing a date night or that's referencing a marriage
And it's always such an important task to leave it open enough
For the listener to relate the way they need to
Yet be specific enough for your song to be effective
Well like I said you can listen to this song
And decide for yourself what you think happened to the girl in this song
