This is Chris Motionless and this is Ricky Horror
And welcome to the Spotify commentary for Graveyard Shift
We thought it would be a really cool idea to do
A Spotify commentary for the one-year anniversary of the album
And be able to speak about the songs in
A slightly different way than we would
If we'd recorded it for the original release date
Ah, I think it's really cool to be able to look back
And also talk about some of the reactions to the songs now after the fact and
Just our overall feelings about the songs and the album, a year later
Uhm, So thank you guys for being here to listen to the audio
Commentary in honor of the one-year anniversary of Graveyard Shift
So one year later, how are you feeling about the album, Ricky?
I feel great, ah, now I think that it's
That I feel pretty close to exactly the same way I felt when it first came out
I mean, I still like every song, I still listen to the album
Every once in a while and
Uhm, all the songs still feel fairly fresh and new and, uhm, I don't
Some, I feel like sometimes when I go back and listen to older stuff
There's things that I pick out that I'm like
"Oh, I wish you would have done this differently or that differently"
But I feel like with Graveyard Shift
I haven't really done that at all, (yeah) that's kinda cool
I completely agree there's like less, less like
"Oh, shit, I wish I did, did this differently"
I think, uh, what's actually been the coolest thing for me
Is just to see how the songs have went over live (hm-mm)
I think the album sounds like, it sounds great as a recording
But I feel like the song has really come to life when we play them live
Ah, I've never felt that with an entire album that we've done in the past
This is, this is the only album that we've actually played every song live
But even with the previous albums, everything that we've played
There's always those hit or miss tracks
But even the ones on Graveyard Shift that aren't the bigger songs
Still go over so well live that like there's not that dead zone in the set list
Where everyone just kind of stands there like zombies
It still keeps like, a song like hourglass
Still had keeps that vibe and keeps the groove
And, and keeps the crowd into it
And it's been really cool to see these songs
Really come to life for me when we play them live
And, and give them such another dimension
And we were able to get on the record, so (yeah)
Is there a song that was maybe your favorite in the beginning
That has been overruled by another one?
Uhm, I feel like, like going into the recording process, I really liked, ah
Soft, was, was my, my big song, I think
And then, uhm, maybe I know that I liked Eternally Yours
From the moment that I first heard it
Uhm, and I think that those two songs are probably still
My top, my top two songs on the album
Even after playing it live and stuff to it
Yeah, the live, the live aspect is what
Not changed everything for me but obviously 5-
You know everyone knows 570 is my favorite
On the album and eternal yours is after that but
Uh, I think playing Soft live is great
But I, I actually was surprised by Necessary Evil
Like playing that song live made me like the song even so much more
Like, I always thought like, damn this one's (hm-mm)
This one's a banger and super heavy
But playing it live just made me feel
Uh, just so much better about it
And like, there was that stress of like
Are people even gonna get this and, and think it's cool?
Or is it just going to be the most hated song on the album?
And uhm, I'm really happy that when it hits, it hits hard
And the crowd sing-alongs are fucking insane
That was the song that we played in, uh, Australia
That the, the crowd sing-alongs were crazy (yeah, yeah, yeap)
So, yeah I think uh, I think one year later this is our most
Looked at album as, as a success that, uh
We were trying to accomplish and
It's great to see that, that like when you look at those Spotify plays
And all the songs it's all the new songs that are up in the top ten
It's just super cool to see the fans react to the album the way
That we were really hoping, hoping for them to react (yeah)
Uh, I think the last thing to mention here before we go any further is that
We're, the way that we're going to do this commentary
Is that we're not really focusing on how long each track is
As you can see, some of them are really long
But whenever I listen to Spotify commentaries
And they're a minute and a half long with
Barely any information or background to the songs
I just kind of feel like I, I just wanted to hear so much more
And I just really like a really deep background to things
If that's what I'm looking for and
Uh, we just have so much to say about these songs
And there's a lot that goes into, uh
The, the creation of them musically and lyrically
And there's a lot about what they mean to us and
Uh, I feel like, we just, we just really wanted
Give a full explanation of these songs and
And let you know where we were at writing them and
Uh, not really care about how long the tracks are
So hopefully you guys can get through it
And we'll see you on the other side
