Celebrate the release of her new album "I Don't Believe We've
Met" and you and I have talked about how your sound is influenced
By so many different types of music from R&B to pop to country
And whatever your parents were listening to, uh, when you were
Growin' up, and I hear a lot of influences of that on this
Album. So talk about being able to really explore that sound
And not feel like you were kind of stuck in one tiny little box
You know, I had the thought process of just going into a write
And not having any rules or any setbacks or anything, and
I've told them, I said, you know, I know there's some rules
That we have to follow or keep aware of, and um, I said, you
Know, let's just write. Let's just write, have fun, or if it
Was an outside song I'd hear it and just automatically feel
Connected or just I'm jammin' to it and it just feels natural
Yeah
And I said, you know, if we have to fix something later then we'll
Fix it, but right now let's just do it. And so with the inspiration
Of so many different genres growing up, I'm like, well, I honestly
I don't wanna stay in one lane, I kinda wanna risk it a little bit
And go off of different genres and kinda intertwine those together
And I wouldn't say I do the pop country, I do more, and I love more
R&B country, and I feel like those two mend together a lot better
Yeah, and I think fortunately we've got people like Sam Hunt and
Thomas Rhett and Walker Hayes who are pushing that envelope and
Even Carrie Underwood, I mean, they're bringing in sounds that
Maybe wouldn't have been in country music ten years ago, but it's
Really sort of broadening it and opening it up so that you can have
All these sounds, and one of the songs on your new album where I
Think that really shows through when you were talking about just
Listening to songs is this next one, "Red Wine on a White Couch," or
I don't know, it's red wine plus white couch, but when you sing it...
Red wine and a white couch, yeah
So I'm wondering, did you think whenever you were listening to music
Like, oh, people are gonna think that's not country, or did you just
Say, I like that song, and we're
Gonna figure out how it's gonna work?
You know at first I said the whole, oh, my gosh, I love this song
And I remember Emily Weisman was a writer on that and she sent it to
Me one day, and I'm always such a believer on things are meant to
Happen when they happen and timing is everything, and she sent that
Song to me after she wrote it and she was like, I just, I hear you
On this song and I know you would love this, and I was like, oh my
And I did not stop jammin' to it, and I was like, oh my God, I love
This song, and I told my management, I was like, I wanna put my vocal
On it just for fun, even if we won't keep it, I just wanna put my
Vocal on it, see how it sounds. And, um, it was definitely outside
The box, it was very much more R&B, and I was
Honestly nervous, I'm like, okay, a lot of people
Are gonna be like, this is not country at all
Right
And I'm like, you know what, one song is not gonna hurt
I'm gonna throw this in there and it's fun and it's something
That I personally would listen to, and, um, so far so good
Good feedback, and, but I'm definitely gonna have those
People that are like, oh, this is not country at all, but...
You know, it's so great though, and the metaphor of...
It's so true
'Cause we all know that feeling, the nervousness of red
Wine, white couch, it's like, disaster waiting to happen
Oh yeah, oh yeah, and just the way that it was written, and red wine
On a white couch, and it's about being with this person and he or
She makes you so nervous that it's like lovin' you is like drinkin'

And I think it's one of those things I can imagine if
