Oh this is, look -, I wanna jump in on Chinatown
Because ah, this is an old song from 1977, I believe
Ah, and we sort of rediscovered it and I, then I said, "Dave, you gotta finish this song"
It needs an update, but it really hearkens back to a, a style of music
That even Dave doesn't write like that anymore
There was just an old-school vibe to it
Ah, for the old TOTO fans, they're really gonna like this one
'Cause it, it was from that era but an updated version of it
And Dave, you can probably jump in here now at this point
Yeah, it was ah, you know it came out of the, "Boz Skaggs, Silk Degrees" phase
I was in the writing mode there and
Steve Lukather, he just has an ear for picking up these older songs that we've done, but
It was ah, you know I'd remember, written it originally
'Cause ah-ah, I have a lot of relatives up in Oakland area
And me and my cousins used to pal around in Chinatown
Trying to get into trouble, which wasn't very hard to do
And I was always fascinated with all the ah
Different diver-diver-diversity and ethnicities in that town
So I ended up having to rewrite all the lyrics
Because I was so politically incorrect in many cases
And ah, ended up creating another story from my memories on it
And I hope that people will like it
